Virgin Mary

Virgin Mary is as seen in Christianity and Islam; the sources are mainly the Bible and Quran. They are both mostly similar considering Mary.

Special!

Christianity (Bible)

Islam (Quran)

"The angel went to her and said, 'Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you."

Luke 1:28

"Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah has chosen you and purified you - chosen you above the women of all nations."

Quran 3:42

Encounter with the Angel

"Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus."

Luke 1:29-31

"Behold! the angels said: "O Mary! Allah gives you glad tidings of a Word from Him: his name will be Christ Jesus, the son of Mary, held in honor in this world and the Hereafter and of (the company of) those nearest to Allah";

Quran 3:45

How!

"How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God."

Luke 1:34-5

"She said: 'O my Lord! how shall I have a son when no man has touched me?' He said: "Even so: Allah creates what He wills: when He has decreed a Plan, He but says to it, 'Be,' and it is!"

Quran 3:47

A Miracle at The Same Time

"Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. For nothing is impossible with God."

Luke 1:36-7

Praying: "O my Lord! Infirm indeed are my bones, and the hair of my head glistens with grey: but never am I unblest, O my Lord, in my prayer to You!...my wife is barren: so give me an heir as from Yourself, "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom You are well-pleased!" (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give you good news of a son: his name shall be Yahya (John the Baptist)..." He said: "O my Lord! how shall I have a son, when my wife is barren and I have grown quite decrepit from old age?" He said: "So (it will be) : your Lord says, 'That is easy for Me: I indeed created you before, when you had been nothing!"

Quran 19:4-9

Creation of Adam and Jesus

"God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them."

Genesis 1:27

"The similitude of Jesus before Allah is as that of Adam; He created him from dust, then said to him: "Be": and he was."

Quran 3:59

The Birth

..."the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger"...

Luke 1:6-7

"So she conceived him, and she retired with him to a remote place. And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk o a palm-tree: she cried (in her anguish): "Ah! would that I had died before this! would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight! But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree) :"Do not grieve! for your Lord has provided a rivulet beneath you; "And shake toward yourself the trunk of the palm-tree: it will let fall fresh ripe dates upon you."

Quran 19:22-5

The Other Mircales of Jesus in the Quran

"So eat and drink and cool (your) eye. And if you see any man, say, 'I have vowed a fast to (Allah) Most Gracious, and this day I will not enter into any talk with any human being.' At length she brought the (babe) to her people, carrying him (in her arms). They said: "O Mary! truly an amazing thing you have brought! "O sister of Aaron! your father was not a man of evil, nor your mother an unchaste woman!" But she pointed to the babe. They said: "how can we talk to one who is a child in the cradle?" He said: "I am indeed a servant of Allah: He has given me Revelation and made me a prophet; "And He has made me blessed wheresoever I be, and has enjoined on me Prayer and Charity as long as I live; "(He) has made me kind to my mother, and not overbearing or miserable."

Quran 19:26-32
